I Am Active

I am Active is a multi-tiered artistic program focused on rehabilitation and family healing for incarcerated individuals, their families and children.  A place where incarcerated individuals actively take charge of their own destinies.

The alienation that occurs from missing milestones, limited communication, and lack of common ground can be both destructive and painful.

I Am Active’s major service is providing therapeutic services and opportunities to those impacted by incarceration in the following ways:

Separation Coping and Support Program

The Black LotUS Project will connect incarcerated individuals with volunteer artists and other creators, as a means to cope with the difficult situation of being separated. Through the use of art therapy techniques, inmates will work through creative and cathartic undertakings to sort through emotions to focus on mental, spiritual and physical health in order to promote healing and forward thinking.

Incarcerated Parents Program

In an attempt to bridge the gap between incarcerated parents and their children in the outside world, The Black LotUS Project focuses on creating a shared experience through a variety of styles of art (visual, film, music, writing, theater).

They are given the opportunity for self-expression: all skills that will strengthen their bond.

Post-Incarceration Support

The Black LotUs Project will share resources and re-entry programs with recently freed individuals as part of their re-introduction to the free world through its  partnerships with organizations that provide such services.
